Veterans, POWs, MIAs

The US Marine Corps birthday is tomorrow and Veterans' Day follows November 11. As these important days approach, I can't help but pause to thank all of the brave men and women in our armed forces. So many have paid for our freedom with blood—so many have given their lives. In recent years, Hollywood has done a fair job portraying the horror, confusion and bravery of combat with such movies as Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down and We Were Soldiers, just to name a few (I'm sure to have left out your favorite—blog it to me).

In my own experience in the US Marines, I was very fortunate—one of those always ready, but never called. Still, a number of my comrades in arms were called into the fray during my stint of active duty from early 1973 to 1976. The Mayaguez Rescue of 1975 comes to mind, as do covert missions into Southeast Asia to search for American POWs. The Mayaguez Rescue was doomed from the start, and is really a remarkable story of intense combat and bravery, and it makes me wonder why Hollywood has neglected such an incredible story.

Semper Fidelis to my brothers and sisters in the Corps, and a nod of admiration to those in the Air Force and Navy who participated and gave so much for our country during that mission in May of 1975. There are two very interesting Web sites/articles that I highly recommend and will give you some insight into this nearly forgotten mission: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mayaguez_incident and http://www.vspa.com/nkp-56th-sps-mayaguez-1975.htm. Are there POWs and/or MIAs from this mission? Please, take a look and say a prayer for our fallen, nearly forgotten warriors.

Again, let me hear from you. What memories do you have? What are your favorite Hollywood depictions of the horror of war? Could it be Full Metal Jacket, Platoon, A Bridge Too Far?

God bless those who've served and are serving now--and God bless those who appreciate it!

Thanks go out to my UK readers! They downloaded three Novel Writing Made Simple from the iBook store (through Lulu) in one day--I would have never expected that combo. NWMS is making a run against my thrillers Brainstorm and Jezebel. After this month's Jezebel blog tour, I'm taking a couple of months off from the tour circuit, and I'll start up again with a four week blog binge for Dead Reckoning. Thanks again to all my readers!

DID YOU ENJOY BRAINSTORM?

WOULD YOU READ THE SEQUEL – THE MASTER PLAN?

On the same day a merkabah is discovered in a huge cenoté (sinkhole) in the Yucatan Peninsula, Daniel McMaster finds the US President's kidnapped daughter in NYC while his family home is invaded in Northern California and wife and children go missing. Daniel soon discovers these events are linked by an incredible plot to bring on Earth's final days. Readers of BRAINSTORM know that Daniel is a former government remote viewer, with enhanced abilities. In this sequel, Daniel McMaster has a better understanding of his remote viewing talent and must use this ability, discovering its full potential, to outsmart the dark forces of the Universe, embodied. This will be a high-octane interpretation, of what life, Earth, the Universe and even God are all about, linking current scientific theory, and contemporary theological understanding.

As well as a new cast of dynamic and some diabolical characters, returning with Daniel McMaster are his wife Sunny, their daughter Lilly, Major Lionel (Jax) Jackson, Moonfeather, Gunny Sampson and US President Francis Allen Mason. This break-neck thriller will take you on a trek across the Americas from the forests of Northern California, to the streets of NYC and DC's inner city, resulting in a journey of discovery and battle through the deadliest jungles of the Yucatan Peninsula . But what they find deep within a huge, sealed chamber over 100,000 years old will cause you to think and rethink your very existence, and give you answers to questions the human race has asked for millennia.

Coming in 2012.

THANKS READERS!

Thanks to my wonderful readers, my Kindle eBook sales has reached 100.  This might seem like a minor achievement to most, but it's a start in what I intend to make a long campaign to get my books into the hands of as many readers as possible.

Also, the Brainstorm YouTube book trailer has surpassed 1200 views and Jezebel is on it's tail with near 200 after only a short time of being out.

It's been considerable work, but I'm having a blast! The great reviews and reader comments have already made the journey worthwhile.

Thanks again, readers!

CHIGGERS!

Walked Jaz in some tall grass before leaving for Minneapolis.  Got the worst case of chiggers I've ever had! Scratched my legs raw! I'm back home now in Metro KC, still itching like mad. Jaz has absolutely no sympathy.  Aren't dogs great!

Blogging Revisted

I'm back...finally. And this time, I'm coming at this blogging thing at a little different angle. I'll bare my soul, be honest, bold, abrasive, crass and gross.  I'll be tender, sentimental, silly and slightly insane. I'll be me, for good or bad and for what it's worth. Follow me at: www.Twitter.com/gordonkesslerwww.Facebook.com/gordonkessler1, and www.Linkedin.com/in/gordonkessler, but you'll find my indepth, soul exposing truth right here.

Where do I start? Let's talk about writing. I'm so very glad to be a part of the "Indie Revolution"--even if it's a small part.  I'm going to do what I can to help my fellow writers live their dreams and get their wonderful stories into as many readers hands as possible.  I feel that true writers are entertainers--not out just to make a buck (it's nice when we do, though), but out to make people smile, to cry, to feel warm inside, to make their hearts race with fear and with love--all with just a few choice words. I hope BRAINSTORM, DEAD REKCONING and JEZEBEL will entertain thousands upon thousands of people.

It's your turn: So, tell me, what do you enjoy most in a good novel?
